Dr. Baker is a board certified neuropsychologist with over 15 years of clinical experience working with children, teens, and young adults at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center & Children’s Hospital Colorado.
Prior to being a neuropsychologist, Dr. Baker was an elementary teacher (3rd and 5th grades). It was in the classroom that Dr. Baker became interested in why certain students had more difficulties with behavior or learning than others. This led to him pursuing a degree in clinical psychology and eventually seeking more specialized training in neuropsychology.
Dr. Baker provides neuropsychological care to children, adolescents, and young adults with rehabilitation-relevant medical conditions including but not limited to concussion/mild traumatic brain injury (TBI), moderate to severe TBI, cerebral palsy, and Duchenne muscular dystrophy. He also specializes in conducting evaluations of individuals with ADHD, learning disorders such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia, along with various neurodevelopmental conditions including but not limited to language disorders and social communication disorders such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
Through careful and compassionate assessment, Dr. Baker's neuropsychological evaluations aim to identify each patient’s unique pattern of strengths and weaknesses. He strives to assess the whole individual which includes examining every patient’s diverse cognitive, learning, emotional, social, and behavioral profile. The ultimate goal of each evaluation is to advance the individual’s functioning at home, school and in the community, as well as improve their overall quality of life.

Ms. Abby Mayo is a talented educator who is Orton-Gillingham (OG) certified, as well as skilled in tutoring students who are struggling in a variety of other subjects including math and Spanish.
Dr. Lexie Barber also has recently joined our team and conducts comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations with particular expertise in autism spectrum disorder (ASD) assessments for children and adolescents. Alexandra (Lexie) Barber is a licensed psychologist with experience working with kids and teens of all ages and their families. Like Dr. Baker, Dr. Barber's professional journey began in the classroom. While teaching in early childhood and middle elementary classrooms, she realized that her passion lay in helping children, and their support systems, understand barriers to learning and ultimately help them problem-solve these barriers. She ended up pursuing a PhD in School Psychology to learn how to put that passion to good use. Throughout her training in graduate school and post-graduation, Dr. Barber gained extensive experience in comprehensive assessment for individuals across the lifespan. She is particularly passionate about the process of delivering feedback at the end of evaluations and sees it as a critical moment to discuss what diagnoses really mean, share tools for addressing difficulties, help children understand their mental health and/or neurodiversity-related needs, and advocate for necessary supports.
Most recently, she completed her post-doctoral residency in Salt Lake City, UT at the University of Utah Health Huntsman Mental Health Institute. While there, she split her time between a residential treatment center for teens and the Autism Spectrum Disorders Clinic (ASDC). It was at the ASDC that Dr. Barber honed her skills in comprehensive psychological assessment for individuals with neurodevelopmental differences. She received particularly intensive training in autism assessment. Now, in addition to her work at Baker Neuropsychology and Learning Center, Dr. Barber works as a staff psychologist at Aurora Mental Health and Recovery where she provides therapy to young adults with autism and/or intellectual disability. Her current work at this clinic has been invaluable as it has helped her better understand the types of support available to neurodiverse individuals after graduating from high school.
Ultimately, Dr. Barber sees assessments like the ones done at Baker Neuropsychology and Learning Center as tools for better understanding ourselves and each other. Dr. Barber takes a holistic and culturally-responsive approach with each person she tests, with the hope that her reports provide helpful insight into how individuals learn, feel, and interact with others.
